Robert Sestok (American, b. 1946, Detroit, Michigan) is an artist, an original member of the artist-run Willis Gallery, and a central figure during the genesis of Detroit's Cass Corridor art scene. Since the late 1960s, Sestok has employed modes of deconstruction in his often large-scale sculptures and paintings, most of which utilize and alter discarded or found materials; scrap metal, broken shovels, aluminum cans, old house paint, among others. His work has been exhibited in numerous places including Kick Out the Jams: Detroit's Cass Corridor: 1963 – 1977 at the Detroit Institute of Arts (1980), Another Look at Detroit: Parts 1 and 2 at Marianne Boesky (2014), and on permanent view at City Sculpture Park, a 17,000 sq ft sculpture park in the Cass Corridor that Sestok developed in 2015. He lives and works in Detroit, MI.
