Andrea Abbatangelo (born 1981 in Italy, now living in London) works at the confluence of installation, performance and sculpture. He adopts an inter- disciplinary approach and has studied geography, history and sociology. During his artistic career he has experimented with community-based anthropological practices and theory but has always returned to the language of art to produce his work in situ, engaging individuals, groups of people or communities. Through his work he looks at how emerging art practices can survive and hopefully thrive in the midst of austerity, political instability or even armed conflict. Inevitably the contexts result in major changes within the arts and lead to major challenges for lesser known artists or projects that are currently still building their audiences, to succeed.   In the last years his works has been exhibited in public spaces and festivals such as: TownHouse Gallery, Cairo (2011); Palazzo Collicola Arti Visive - Museo Carandente, 54 Esposizione Internazionale – La Biennale di Venezia (2011); Railway Lecture Hall, Kassel, Documenta (2012); Villa Arson, Nice (2015); Cabaret Voltaire, Manifesta 11, Zurich (2016); Catinca Tabacaru Gallery, Harare (2018); and Terni Festival (2018). He has  collaborated in projects such as:  'Remember Nature' by Gustav Metzger, Central Saint Martins & Serpentine Gallery (2015); Une pensée pour la culture, Quotidien de l’art & Palais de Tokyo, Paris (2017); A Silent Opera on the Life and Art of Tehching Hsieh, Live Art Development Agency; Tête-à-Tête: The Opera Festival, London (2017/18).
