Nadia Alexis is a poet, photographer, educator, and organizer who was born in Harlem, New York City to Haitian immigrants. Her writing publications include The American Poetry Journal, Tinderbox Poetry Journal, Texas Review and elsewhere. Photography publications include works in fields magazine, TORCH Journal, the MFON: Women Photographers of the African Diaspora anthology, and elsewhere. She received a 2020 photography award nomination from the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters, a 2019 honorable mention poetry prize from the Hurston/Wright Foundation’s Award for College Writers, has been mentored by Carrie Mae Weems, and has received poetry fellowships from the Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop and The Watering Hole. Her photographs have been on view in several exhibitions in the U.S. and Cuba. She is currently a creative writing doctoral student at the University of Mississippi where she also earned her MFA in poetry. Find her online at bynadiaalexis.com
