Ricky Weaver is an image-based artist from Ypsilanti, Michigan. She received her BFA in Photography from Eastern Michigan University in 2014 and an MFA in photography from Cranbrook Academy of Art in 2018. Since then she has worked as Part-time faculty in the Art and Art History department at Wayne State University. Weaver has participated in the Applebaum fellowship and Carr Center Independant Scholar Fellowship under the mentorship of Carrie Mae Weems. She has been invited to exhibit work in the 13th annual Havana Biennale, Page Bond Gallery of Richmond Virginia, The Photographic Center Northwest of Seattle Washington and more. Her work has been published in The Black Aesthetic volume 3, Today at Wayne and the MFON Seattle catalog. Weaver is interested in “The quantum ontology of images” as portals to elsewhere. She explores the idea of alternative modalities through themes of magical realism, the archive of the everyday, and dark sousveillance.
