Box #1 was produced in conjunction with the exhibition ñVision in a Cornfield,î staged at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit in 2012. A homage to a Fluxus quarterly of the same name, which was produced in 1971 by artists affiliated with the California Institute of the Arts, the box is a treasure trove of original artworks, essays, poems, music, and ephemera, all of which relates to the overreaching theme of Afrofuturism in Detroit. Created by Detroit-based and national artists, musicians, and writers, the assorted items range from a 12î LP of recordings from Sun Ra's Live in Detroit of 1979-80 to a reprint of Faruq Z BeyÍs text on music theory and existentialism, Toward a ïRatioÍnal Aesthetic.Box #1 is edited by Cary Loren and Rebecca Mazzei.
